Summer Solstice

Fellow Travelers, There is a big birthday party coming soon that I want to talk about... But first, a few notes about last Friday. Happily, the Summer Solstice was duly honored this year. 'Twas a warm summer night, filled with cool refreshment, tasty victuals, frolicking children, laughter wafting in the occassional breeze, some fresh new faces... and a bit of bocce. A few among us experienced the thrill of marginally athletic competition and the agony of defeat. When all was said and done, though, we all came out winners. 'Ere the summer is out, we vow to return with full fledged festivity. Coming on the heals of our Flag Day celebration (Meat & Malbec 6/14), the solstice was a more down tempo administrative affair. Except that revelry again preempted mundane administrative matters; we have naught to show for our organizational endeavors other than empty bottles and wistful memories. But tonight (Tuesday 6/24), we seek redemption ...in the form of art and science projects. Yes, in 10 short days it will be time to say, "Happy Birthday, America!" And we intend to do so in our own special way, with a float and festoons and totems of Dionysos. As many of you know, the goat is an icon of perseverance and vitality and the principal totem of Dionysos. Goats and vestiges of viticulture will be featured heavily in our floatation. It's gonna be goatastic... and we enjoin all members and friends to contribute labor, fabric, wine, money, carpets, trumpets, strumpets, and all manner of enthusiasm and good will to the cause. TONIGHT we will venture to either or both Amy D's Atelier or Sheik Ronnie's Sculpture Shack. Conveniently located betwixt these two centers of creativity is our gathering place: Spiesekammer. The collective should start congealing there at 8PM. Stay tuned for late updates and feel free to call as the situation is, uh... fluid. Cheers all, michael .
