Cabernet Cabaret
| ||
Summary: Lovely space. Good wine. Great people. Very cheesy. Our Cabernet Cabaret was the cheese. Good Dionysians happily dropped in with $20 and $30 dollar chunks of tasty Morbiere, Gorgonzola, Gruyere, Tomme Affine, Cheddar and more. Ms. Tasty Pastry, Carol, once again blessed us with a platter of wholesome goodness as did our dear friend, the Honey Bee. Roast beast was provided courtesy of El Chupacabre. Bread by Feel Good. Thanks to everyone that pitched in $$ and brought wine and/or cheese. We more or less broke even for what we drank. Of course, I had wine for twice as many people, which is to say, I still have a bit of wine. Let me know if you'd like to share a glass. Thanks also to winemaker Matt Smith for granting us several bonus bottles of his 2004 Blacksmith cabernet, a most accessible and tasty concoction. The six or eight of you that joined us on Groundhog Day 2007 might have remembered this selection from our Alexander Valley tasting. Happily, there were 25 or 30 to share the vinified wealth this time around. We even had some art buyers, no less. Alas, our cabernet sauvignon education remains incomplete. Ritual was sacrificed to expediency and no readings or extended discourses on the theme were had. Perhaps we'll return to that when we take up Meritage blends. Or vintage vintages. As to the tasting itself, Blacksmith and Heitz anectdotally won the day. The Heitz and Mario Perelli-Minetti tasted a bit young, though. Such is the cost of immediate gratification. Thanks once again to our gracious hosts, Jacqueline and Colin, local artists and purveyors of fine art. I must say that the Autobody Gallery does lend itself nicely to wine drinking and socializing. With a little more organization, we'll add dancers and crazy music next time. Meanwhile, for anyone looking to embrace the Dionysian pillar of fertility, I encourage you to join me in about six hours for a tree planting in East Oakland, brought to you by the good folks at Urban Releaf. Saturday, 10am, Willie Wilkens (Elmhurst) Park, 98th Ave & B Street: http://urbanreleaf.org/ With gratitude, Your humble servant, The Satyrical One ...Dig a hole, fill it back up. Dig a hole, fill it back up...
